Your seed phrase — also called a recovery phrase or mnemonic — is the single most important piece of information related to your crypto wallet. Losing it means losing your wallet forever. Sharing it means losing everything in it immediately.
It is a sequence of 12 or 24 randomly generated words (e.g., 'river table cloud moon...') that encodes the master key to your entire wallet. Every address and every private key in your wallet can be mathematically derived from this phrase.
Never store your seed phrase digitally. No photos, no notes apps, no email, no cloud storage. Write it on paper using a pen — clearly and in order. Some people use a metal backup plate for fire and water resistance.
Store it somewhere physically secure: a safe, a locked drawer, or a trusted location separate from your devices. Never store it with your hardware wallet itself.
No legitimate service, consultant, exchange, or support team will ever ask for your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is attempting to steal your assets. This includes people claiming to be from Coinbase, MetaMask, or any other company.
